The AGROCAST for April 2020 focuses on Super Mario RPG for the Super Nintendo.
The Super Nintendo was a wellspring of strong jRPGs with many of the titles we call back to now, for whatever it’s worth. Super Mario RPG was a collaboration between SquareSoft and Nintendo, bringing these characters into a new format and level of narrative as well as introducing many new characters and settings in their own right. There was a lot of providence in SMRPG.
So, does it hold up? Or was it ever as good as it should have been? Mario has starred in many RPGs since Legend of the Seven Stars, and the genre as a whole has evolved and differentiated since this point. So, how does SMRPG fare? I’m joined by Kris as we once again return to the Mushroom Kingdom and beyond.
