The AGROCAST for February 2021 focuses on Devil May Cry for the PlayStation 2
There are series that blaze a path for entire genres, those that show many of the hallmarks of later games at different degrees of familiarity. Sometimes they hit just right, sometimes games in a series will change quite a bit before they hit their stride. Devil May Cry seems to fit into this category. Although many of the elements that comprise the game are artifacts of its original identity, its push towards a certain kind of action and characterization have made ripples that are felt in beloved titles that would come later.
Kris and I didn’t have much experience with this series at all, speaking for myself I had what amounts to none whatsoever. There’s the idea that DMC really took off with the third game, but we both agree that we like to start at the beginning. So does Devil May Cry hit home for us? That’s the question we tried to answer.
