When I first heard that Fangamer would be releasing merchandise based on Final Fantasy 6 my interest was definitely piqued. This has retained a place amongst my favourite games since its SNES release and is one of the few games I can play again and enjoy it as if I were playing it for the first time all over again. I just get so enthusiastic about this game!
So when I then heard that the greatly talented Camille Young would be creating a figurine inspired by this game – I became very excited indeed. I’ve been anticipating this wonderful work of art for some time and now that I have the final product I am as thoroughly impressed as I knew I would be. This Espera figurine is probably my favourite released through the store thus far!

Espera, in this case, seems to be a portmanteau of ‘Esper’ and ‘Terra.’ The figurine takes inspiration from Terra’s ‘Morphed’ form in Final Fantasy 6. The base takes its cues from Tritoch (or Valigarmanda if you are more familiar with that name, but whatever).
The figurine, or more aptly – figurines are gorgeous but the packaging is wonderful as well. I am always impressed with the packaging of most Fangamer products. More effort goes into boxes and labels than some companies put into their actual products.

This is lovely, however I did damage the box a little separating the glue from ribbon and seal and the box. But eventually you get it open.

Let’s focus on the figurine itself.

Perhaps there is no “correct” way to display this figurine, as it is beautiful from any angle. However, the Tritoch base does seem to catch light well so perhaps somewhere well lit would be best!
Let’s take a closer look at the base.

In Final Fantasy 6, Tritoch is encased in ice. To actually have the figurine be an icy version of the Esper is a touch of genius. It brings the connection between Terra and Tritoch into focus, and is reminiscent of the wintery world of Narshe. So not only is it a highly attractive base it is also multiply referential.

As seen in the picture above, there are grooves set in for the morphed Terra to be situated. This is delicately balanced, so be careful when moving the figurines.
I don’t know if it was an intended effect or not, but having her imprints here kind of lends to the ice illusion, her body heat and energies ‘melting’ the base slightly.

So overall, as of this writing this is my favourite figurine to show up in the Fangamer store. I am always astounded by the quality and detail of Camille Young’s pieces. Perhaps this time I am simply ‘double astounded’ because there are two figurines?

For those wondering about the size of the figurines, you can get these details on the product page linked above. However, it might be more immediately useful for fans of this game to see her next to the classic cartridge!

Most importantly, and certainly most critically here is how she looks riding Trancula from the classic Sectaurs toy line!

It doesn’t exactly seem suitable to post, but I can’t help it… I bet you bought if for fapping :p, lol.
Anyway, figure looks alright and the background works well for the setting. Doing a human figure that I really like doesn’t seem that common for me, but I’m probably just fussy.
